Climate Smart Agriculture - Making Agriculture Fit for Climate Change
How can future farmers be prepared for the impacts of climate change? And what role do modern agricultural technologies, digitalisation, and the sustainable use of water and soil play in this process?
These are the key questions addressed by the European Erasmus+ project "Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA)".
The aim of the project is to strengthen the integration of climate-smart and sustainable agricultural practices into vocational education and training (VET). Teachers, trainers, learners and agricultural practitioners will be supported in gaining a better understanding of the impacts of climate change and in exploring appropriate adaptation and mitigation strategies. Particular emphasis is placed on sustainability, AI & Agriculture 4.0, innovative water and soil management, as well as smart and low-emission agricultural practices.
Partners from France, Germany, Bulgaria and Turkey are working together on the project. The project is coordinated by MFR Lesneven in France, with DEULA-Nienburg representing Germany.
DEULA-Nienburg contributes its extensive experience in practice-oriented agricultural vocational education and training, modern agricultural technology, Smart Farming, sensor technology and digitalisation to the project.
From November 10th to 14th 2025, DEULA Nienburg hosted the second international project activity, "Sustainable Water Management". The activity focused on innovative solutions for sustainable water management, irrigation, sensor technology and data-driven approaches to improving water efficiency in agriculture. The programme also included a joint visit to AGRITECHNICA.
In addition, DEULA is involved in developing the shared educational content. Its areas of expertise include smart farming, sensor technologies, the impacts of climate change, the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and AI & Agriculture 4.0. In doing so, DEULA helps bridge the gap between current technical developments and the requirements of vocational agricultural training.
The jointly developed materials are being tested and refined in collaboration with teachers and learners. The aim is to create practical, freely accessible educational resources that can continue to be used in vocational training and professional development after the project ends.

Over the course of the 18-month project, five interconnected activities will be carried out. They will focus, among other topics, on climate resilience and water resources in France, sustainable water management and digital agricultural technologies in Germany, the development of teaching and learning materials in Bulgaria, and climate-adapted greenhouse cultivation in Türkiye. Finally, the approaches developed throughout the project will be brought together in a CSA-Toolkit for vocational education and training.
